Cherry Hill Park – RV Park Review
Cherry Hill Park, in College Park, MD, is the RV park closest to Washington, D.C. Deb had been to D.C. about xx years ago (Yep, xx so I don’t get killed!) when she chaperoned our daughter’s eighth grade class trip. I had never been there. We could have stayed in a park a bit further out, and driven into the city (Yeah, right!) or to the nearest Metro station. But at Cherry Hill, tour buses and Metro buses stop right at the park’s bus depot. No contest.
We drove down from the Harrisburg, PA area, coming south on I83, to 695 around Baltimore, to I95 south to College Park, MD, getting off at exit 29B onto Powder Mill Rd., then to Cherry Hill Rd. and to the park. We were a bit concerned about traffic, particularly around Baltimore. But I guess our timing was right: it was a Sunday and late morning, so traffic was steady, but not too bad (even for a couple of folks from a rural New Hampshire setting). Leaving, we went back over the same routes. It was a Tuesday, but late morning again, so traffic was manageable.
If there’s a down-side, it is that Cherry Hill’s prices are a bit steep. For an RV site, they range from $60.00 to $70.00 a night. They are a Good Sam park, so Good Sammers get the 10% discount and that helps. On the positive side, this is a very nice park. The employees are friendly and helpful. The sites are fairly close together, but well laid out and quite level. And the place is CLEAN! Our site was done with crushed stone, and had a picnic table in a patio area and a fire ring. The only complaint I had with the site is that there wasn’t much room to park our vehicle. We’ve got a full-size, extended-cab, long-bed pickup and we could get it off the camp road without encroaching o adjacent sites, but just barely.
Amenities? They’ve got it all! Two pools, a great camp store, hot tub & sauna, a TV room, an exercise room, a well equipped laundry room, and a cafe that serves quite a variety of snacks and meals. There are multiple bath houses with very clean and modern toilet and shower facilities. There is cable TV at each site and Wi-Fi – with good connectivity – throughout the park. We were surprised when we bought wood at the camp store. We got three bundles for $5.00. It was a mix of soft and hard woods and, although they weren’t huge bundles, it was less expensive than at many parks.
The employees at Cherry Hill Park were very helpful regarding tours of Washington, things to see and do, and getting around on the Metro. It was really handy to be able to buy tour and Metro tickets right at the park. Trailer Life 2011 rates the park at 9.5, 9.5, and 9.5 and we heartily agree. If we visit Washington, D.C. again in the RV, this is almost certainly where we’d want to stay.
