Pocono Vacation Park – RV Park Review
Pocono Vacation Park in Stroudsburg, PA has become a frequent overnight stopover when we travel to PA or points south. From NH, we travel south on MA Route 495 to the MA Pike (Route 90), then to Route 84 through CT, NY, into PA to Route 209 south. Through the Delaware Water Gap to Stroudsburg, then to Pocono Vacation Park on Schaffers Schoolhouse Road, off of Business Route 209.
Is this a great park? Well, Trailer Life (2011) gives it a rating of 8.5, 8.5, and 8. Not bad at all. It has around 300 sites, with about a third of those available for “transient” campers/RVers. Lots of seasonal sites, but that’s not necessarily bad. Note that these photos are from a previous visit to PVP, a few years ago.
The park owners and employees have always been helpful and friendly. Last year we stopped here for a night on our way to Virginia. When we left, we hadn’t gone five miles when we experienced serious brake problems on the travel trailer. A call to PVP got us back into the site we had just left, and we were able to stay there for the three days it took to effect the needed repairs. The folks in the office recommended Luke’s Mobile RV in Nazareth, PA. Luke turned out to be a very nice guy who went out of his way to get our problem fixed quickly and get us on our way.
PVP is a Good Sam park, so we get the handy 10% discount. We always get an easy-in/easy-out pull-through site for our overnight stays, and always are escorted to our site by an employee. These sites have water, electric, sewer, and cable TV and go for around $36.00 a night, before the discount. Wi-Fi is available, too, at no extra charge. Some of the sites are not particularly level, but we come equipped to easily level up our rig. This year, one of our seasonal neighbors had a rather noisy party going until the wee hours, and that made sleeping a bit tough. We survived, though, and got under way the next morning for our next stop.
All in all, Pocono Vacation Park is a pretty handy and satisfactory park to stop in for a night or two on our way through. One of these years, we may opt to stay there for a few nights while we attend a Nascar Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway. Now THAT should be a good time!
