Pumpkin Patch RV Resort – RV Park Review
• Note — This was an overnight stop for us, so there’s a lot about the RV park and the surrounding area that we didn’t experience. This RV park review is based on our quick impression.
• Where is it? — Pumpkin Patch RV Resort is in Hermon, Maine, near Bangor. Its address is 149 Billings Rd, Hermon, ME 04401. The phone number is (207) 848-2231, and the web address is www.pumpkinpatchrv.com.
• Getting There — From New Hampshire, we took I-95 North to the Bangor, Maine area. Following instructions from the RV park, we got off at exit 180 and followed Coldbrook Road northwest for about two miles to Route 2. Then we followed Route 2 northwest for about a mile and a half and took a right onto Billings Road. The park is around a mile up on Billings Road, on the right. Interestingly, our Rand McNally GPS wanted us to take a right onto Cambridge Drive just before we got to the Pumpkin Patch entrance. You can easily see the park entrance from the Cambridge Drive turnoff. Go figure!
• Nearby Attractions — Again, our stay here was just one night. We did leave the park to fill up on diesel and pick up a few grocery items. There is at least one fairly large shopping mall, a number of gas stations, restaurants, and other retail shops nearby. There’s a golf course handy, and several museums and other cultural attractions in the Hermon/Bangor area. You could even drive by author Stephen King’s house, if you’re so inclined. For auto race fans, there’s Speedway 95 near Bangor. Within an hour or so, there’s Bar Harbor and beautiful Acadia National Park, not to mention the rocky Maine coast with beaches and lighthouses.
• The Sites — The park has very good gravel interior roads offering easy access to all sites. Our pull-through site was very level and quite spacious, and the others around us appeared the same. While there may be some transient sites with shrubs and trees, the pull-through area where we were was all open, with no shade and nothing except a grassy section to divide one site from the next. There are no tent sites.
• Amenities — I believe all sites have full hookups, including free cable TV and free WiFi Internet that worked well. While we didn’t use them, their bathrooms and laundry facilities were very clean and well kept. Pumpkin Patch has a minimal camp store, but grocery and other stores are nearby. There is no pool, but there are horseshoe pits and some other outdoor games, as well as a rec. hall (we didn’t really pay much attention to it).
• Rates — The nightly rate is $35.00 plus Maine tax. Pumpkin Patch RV Resort is a Good Sam park, so we got the 10% Good Sam discount.
• The People — On their website, they claim to be “The Friendliest Park in New England.” Certainly, the lady we dealt with in the office was super friendly and helpful.
• The Pros — Pretty easy to find and get to from I-95 (notwithstanding the trick our GPS tried to play on us!). This made it convenient even just for an overnight stay. Plenty of choices for shopping, restaurants, and fuel nearby. Level, easily accessible sites, well maintained, clean park, nice people, good rates, everything worked well.
• The Cons — Nothing much to complain about here! Given the choice, we generally prefer shaded sites separated by trees and/or shrubs to give at least the illusion of a little privacy. Sometimes, a more fully stocked camp store is convenient.
• Our rating — As noted at the top, we give Pumpkin Patch RV Resort 4½ out of 5 stars. We’d absolutely stay here again for a night, or longer if we decided to spend more time in the Bangor, ME area.
