Spam
Funny, I used to think that Spam was a processed meat product with which you could make sandwiches, fried slices to go with your breakfast eggs, and so on. Remember the little blue can that said SPAM, with the attached “key” that you used to roll open the top? Then, when you got it open, there was that clear jelly goo surrounding the Spam luncheon meat. You’d have to stick a knife in along the sides of the can to loosen the Spam so it would slide out onto a plate, then clean away the goo. It wasn’t bad goo, just goo that you didn’t want in your sandwich. Remember? We used to make Spam-salad sandwiches by course-mashing Spam with a potato masher and mixing in mayo, chopped pickles, chopped onions, a bit of mustard and some celery salt. Pretty good, actually.
Just for the heck of it, I checked out the Spam website. Wow, who knew? Made by Hormel since the 1930’s, now there is a whole list of Spam products: they’ve got the classic Spam, Spam Lite, Turkey Spam, Hot and Spicy Spam, Spam with Bacon, even Spam Hot Dogs! There’s a Spam Museum. There are Spam tee shirts, Spam hats, Spam office products, Spam games, even Spam festivals. Whoa!
Now, we all associate spam with email, don’t we? Until recently, I never associated spam with blogs. Comment spam: phooey!
I probably shouldn’t have started this blog until I retired. Time is a real tyrant. But even though I only get a few visitors a day, I get lots of comment spam! What a waste of time. Some of these “comments” are, in theory, from other bloggers. I occasionally take the time to check them out, only to find that the “blog” is a no-content site dedicated only to affiliate links or other attempts to sell, sell, sell. Well, I hope to be able to sell some RV and camping-related stuff from this blog, too some day. The difference is that I intend to provide some content and information of interest as a primary goal.
Comment spam. Phooey! I’d rather be camping…and enjoying a REAL Spam sandwich!
