RVing Squirrels! — 6 Comments

  1. Well we have a dead squirrel in our RV.
How do we discover where and how to find and
Get him out the smell is horrible and on
Top of that we are fultimers.
Please,we need some help and advise

    • Off the top of my head, I’m not sure there’s any magic solution to finding the dead body! We had a dead mouse in my wife’s SUV (PHEW!!) and basically had to use our noses to follow the smell. Hard to believe how many hidden places there are in such a small space. Finally found it under a (fortunately) removable housing in a rear storage area. Of course, an RV has a lot more places where a corpse might be concealed. You should be able to narrow it down using the sniff method, but if it’s under the floor, or in a wall, it will (as you know) be tough to find. I bought an inspection camera (borescope, endoscope, etc.). The lighted camera is on a long, semi-flexible cable that can be threaded into some pretty tight places. It sends the live picture to my cell phone. It’s not perfect, but helpful. We tried a variety of disinfectants and deodorizing products and finally eliminated the smell. I’ll find the name of the deodorizer that seemed to do the job for us and post it. We’ve had mice in our RV, too, and I’ll do the promised update on some things that have helped keep critters out.

  2. Squirrels chew through foam we found that out. Us and our neighbor had them invade and we had holes and all sorts of damage. Chestnuts shells by the 100s in our trailer from the winter. We even had the babies inside which we managed to get rid of. We will put metal under our trailer but still believe we have a mouse problem inside. So disheartening!

    • Ouch! Fortunately, we’ve only had the one experience with squirrels in the rig…that we know of. Mice? Now that’s a different story. Those little buggers can get in through the smallest openings! So…foam, Gorilla Tape, course steel wool, etc. in access points we can find. Mouse traps here and there. Haven’t found an ultrasonic plug-in device that works yet.

  3. It sounds rather useless to fight these red squirrels..They have damaged my camp, the sauna, and have found signs of them in my new camper.
